11 Day Fly-in Special Gonerazhou & Mana Pools National Park


Explore one of the last remaining wild frontiers, Mana Pools National Park, and ‘the place of elephants’, Gonarezhou National Park with a 11-day fly-in package. The itinerary can start in Johannesburg or Harare, and finish in Harare or Victoria Falls or vice versa. And we can now mix Gonarazhou, Mana and Matusadona. Each special has at least 1 free flight, and some have 3 free flights, depending on the month in question.


Day 1: Fly from Johannesburg to Gonerazhou National Park

Today you fly from Johannesburg International Airport at 12.15hrs to Buffalo Range airstrip and arrive at 14hrs, close to Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge in the Gonerazhou Nationalpark. Please note this flight only operates on Monday and Thursdays with FedAir. The connection from Johannesburg to Harare is daily.

At the airstrip a driver from the lodge will await you and drive you to the lodge, with game viewing along the way. The transfer takes about 1.45min.

Depending the time of your arrival at the lodge, you will have time for an afternoon activity. We suggest a walk to Chivilila Falls for sundowners. Dinner and overnight at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge.

During your stay in Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge, guests also have the option to mix and match their stay with nights at tented lodge or up-grade to the Ivory Trail Mobile camping. This gives a very different experience and takes you to different areas of the park.

Day 2: Full day guided game activities in Gonerazhou National Park

Today you get up early and enjoy a breakfast at dawn with a stunning view into the gorge. Set off on a full day game drive into the park or chose any of the other activities on offer. We also suggest walks exploring Tembahwata and Machinawa Pans. Again overnight at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge or Tented Camp.

Day 3: Spend another day exploring Gonerazhou National Park

We wake up early again with cup of hot coffee or tea at your camp, before you come to breakfast at the main lodge from where you get the best view over the river gorge down below the lodge. Often animals can be seen from the lodge coming to the river to drink and to meander to other parts of the park.

The day can be spend exploring the park again or with another activity on offer at the lodge. We suggest a full day game drive & walks exploring Chilo cliffs area. For lunch you return to the lodge, before you enjoy a well deserve siesta. After high tea you head off again on a game drive into the park, where you will also enjoy a sunset drink.

Day 4: A last day at Gonerazhou National Park

Today will be your last day exploring this stunning and unique area, may it be on a game drive or a guided walk. We suggest a half day game drive & walks. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon tour of community and Jamanda wilderness. Safe river sundowners. Stay Chilo Gorge lodge for the night.

Day 5: Early transfer to airstrip & fly via light charter aircraft to Mana Pools Nationalpark

Today you depart from Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge and transfer to the nearest airstrip for your light aircraft charter to Mana Pools National Park. At the airstrip a vehicle and driver will await you and drive you to Kanga Camp nearby. Depending your time of arrival at the camp, you will participate in game activities at this lodge. The next days are filled exploring the area via a game drive or on foot with on a guided walking safari. Kanga Camp is a simple but very comfortable and well run bush camp, located directly on a waterhole. The game viewing here is excellent and often you dont even need to leave the lodge to watch many animals.

Day 6: Full day of game activities at Mana Pools, Kanga Camp

Today you wake up at crack of dawn for your breakfast before heading out on a game drive or walking safari, lead by an experienced and knowledgable guide. The game viewing around Kanga Camp is very rich, with many large land living African species like elephants, zebra etc. Preditor sighting here are also superb, with a good population of wild dogs. For lunch you and a siesta you return to the lodge, before heading out for an afternoon game drive and sunset drink.

Day 7: Full day game activities at Mana Pools, Kanga Camp

The day starts early again with breakfast before heading out into the park, either on foot with a walking safari or a game drive. The activities are included at the lodge and your choice. So best you discuss with the guides and management where your interests lie.

Day 8: Transfer via road to Nyamatusi Lodge, Mana Pools National Park

Today you transfer via road from Kanga Camp to Nyamatusi Camp on the eastern side of the park and right on the river banks of the Zambezi River. The combination between Kanga as a bush camp and Nyamatusi on the river is perfect and creates a great contrast. Nyamatusi is a new very luxury camp and offers besides walking safaris and game drives, also guided canoe trips on the Zambezi River.

Day 9: Full day of game activities at Nyamatusi Camp, Mana Pools National Park

After an early breakfast at the lodge and a stunning sunrise over the river, you head out on one of the various activities on offer. The choice is yours as to what you want to do and the lodge will advice you on your best option available. Lunch and siesta is back at the lodge, before heading out in the afternoon on another activity.

Day 10: Last day in Paradise, Nyamatusi Lodge, Mana Pools National Park

Today as per usual your day is action packed with various activities on offer, from walks, canoe trips to game drives in Mana Pools. You pick, this is your trip. The parks offers very diverse habitats, from open plains to thick forests. There the species at Mana Pool are diverse and varied.

Day 11: Depart on light charter aircraft to Victoria Falls where your trip ends

You leave Mana Pools NP on an early morning flight to Victoria Falls (or Harare at same rate), where your trips end.
