Duba Plains Camp
Duba Plains Camp: Our View
Duba Plains is one of our favourite camps at the luxury end of the market in the Okavango Delta. A combination of spectacular scenery and game viewing, excellent guiding and service and great accommodation make it a fantastic choice both for first time visitors and seasoned safari connoisseurs.
It has a reputation for being one of the best dry land game viewing camps in the Okavango Delta and the presence of large amounts of water in this area makes Duba Plains exceptionally scenic as well. Its location in a private concession in the remote northern part of the Delta ensures a true wilderness experience.
This camp was made famous for the lion and buffalo interaction filmed in documentaries released by the owners Derek & Beverly Joubert. And even now this is still one of the best camps in Africa to see lions hunting in daylight. However, this is nature and nothing is guaranteed and we always say to clients that the chance to witness lions hunting should be seen as a bonus and not the sole reason to go there. Fortunately, it is not just about lions and buffaloes and the all-round game viewing and birding is superb!
The camp itself has an understated elegance and luxury that we personally love as well as lots of individuality. Complimentary Swarovski binoculars provided for use in each room is one of the many extra touches not found in competitors camps. The service and guiding is also excellent and with only 5 rooms it is very intimate.
Duba Plains is not cheap but it compares very favourably with other camps in this price bracket and offers a fantastic and exciting safari experience.

Duba Plains Camps: The Details
Duba Plains is located on a private 77,000 acre reserve in the remote northern part of the Okavango Delta. The terrain is diverse with vast savanna plains, seasonal floodplains, wooded islands and permanent waterways. It is a truly idyllic place. Herds of buffalo gather in the plains attracting lions and lion hunts are a particular highlight of a visit to Duba Plains. But the game viewing in general is exceptional here.
The 5 tented rooms, positioned under shady Fig & Mangosteen trees, are on raised wooden decks with gorgeous views over the floodplains. The rooms are elegant and stylish without being flashy and we personally feel that Duba Plains has got it just right- providing luxury with a truly authentic safari feel. All rooms have a private verandah, high ceilings with fans and large beds draped in mosquito nets, creating an especially romantic ambience. En-suite bathrooms offer double basins, flush toilets and both indoor and outdoor showers.
The open sided, thatch roof lounge, dining and bar area is equally stylish and comfortable. A Curio Shop is available and, tucked away from the main area, is a plunge pool. Clients may also book a massage in tranquil surroundings, at the water’s edge (additional cost).
