Day 1: Arrival Dar es Salaam and air charter transfer to Jongomero, Ruaha National Park

Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam you will be met by one of our representatives and assisted with the check for your air charter transfer to Ruaha National Park. From the Jongomero airstrip, you will be driven the short distance to Jongomero where a traditional communal safari lunch awaits.

Under a dappled riverine canopy, this secluded sanctuary is positioned on the banks of a dry riverbed which is a natural pathway for animals in search of water and is the most splendid spot to experience the region’s extraordinary diversity of animals, birds and plants. In the afternoon you will embark on your first game drive. Explore Ruaha’s undulating landscape which is home to giant baobabs and the Park’s rich variety of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, hippo, crocodile, lion and leopard.

Accommodation: Jongomero (incl. all meals, drinks and activities)

Days 2 to 3: Jongomero, Ruaha National Park

Each evening over drinks, you'll have the chance to discuss your plans for the next day with the camp managers. Whether you chose to explore by vehicle or on foot, the expert guides will ensure you enjoy the wealth of biodiversity Ruaha has to offer. Game drives around Jongomero are unique and cater for the safari connoisseur; the remote location situated more than 70km from the next nearest camp means Jongomero doesn't share its game viewing with any other guests or vehicles. Alternatively the camp offers a dawn game walk during the dry season. With the African sun warming your back, you’ll navigate the parched riverbeds while your guide tells you fascinating, often bizarre stories, about the local flora, fauna, insects, birds and animals.

Accommodation: Jongomero (incl. all meals, drinks and activities)

Day 4: Air charter transfer Jongomero to Siwandu Camp, Selous Game Reserve

Boasting UNESCO World Heritage Site status for very good reason; the Selous Game Reserve is home to the most exceptional and diverse wildlife, with more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population, over 40,000 hippos and the largest population of lion on the continent.

Siwandu Camp is a 10 minute game drive from the airstrip and is located in a grove of palms on the shore of Lake Nzerakera. This lakeshore location offers consistency of game viewing as the animals gravitate around the lake and is the only place in East Africa where you can experience water-based game activities.

After your orientation briefing you will have time to settle into your tented suite overlooking the lake. In the afternoon embarking on your first game activity followed by camp fire drinks, a delicious, freshly prepared, three course dinner under the stars and a peaceful sleep with the noises of the bush just beyond the canvas.

Days 5 to 6: Explore Selous Game Reserve

At Siwandu game drives tend to take place after breakfast as by then, the animals have gravitated towards the lake to drink ensuring a far denser concentration of game around the camp.

Siwandu Camp offers a lovely wide range of game activities for guests to experience. Discover the landscape in 4WD open sided game vehicles, led by an expert driver guide. Alternatively take a leisurely boat cruise on our lake and the Rufiji River tributaries; venture close and watch animals from a different perspective; Or perhaps feel the thrill of a dawn game walk and have the opportunity to track animals and engage with the smaller habitats and ecosystems.

Day 7: Air Charter transfer Siwandu Camp to Fanjove Private Island (via Dar es Salaam)

This morning you’ll wave goodbye to the great Maasai giraffe and the other plains’ game on your final game drive to the airstrip, as you prepare to fly back to Dar es Salaam. From here transfer to the island of Songo Songo by private air charter. On arrival at Songo Songo take a 5 min Tuk Tuk ride to the pier where you will embark on a traditional dhow boat for the 40min transfer to Fanjove Private Island.

You will disembark straight into the crystal-clear warm waters and onto the beach in front of the historical lighthouse built in 1863.

You will then be shown to your spacious room (or Banda) that is designed to resemble the traditional East African Dhow Sail. The Bandas are woven in the traditional all-natural materials and have large swing doors that are opened up to face the beach.

A great way to familiarise yourself with Fanjove is to enjoy a sunset trip on a dhow sailing boat that will provide you with beautiful views of the island as the sun goes down. That night you can enjoy your delicious dinner of light fresh fish on the beach in front of the lighthouse.

Accommodation: Fanjove Private Island (incl. all meals and activities)

The snorkelling can be done right off the main beach meaning that natural and exotic marine life that inhabit the shores of Fanjove is only ever a few steps away. For those who are a little more energetic, there is the opportunity to go kayaking to gain a different perspective of the island.

A highlight for any trip to Fanjove is to venture out on a dolphin/whale excursion (extra charge). Taking 2-3 hours, spend an extraordinary and blissful morning in the majestic company of humpback whales and multiple bods of spinner dolphins.

Alternatively you can explore the island taking an island walk either on your own or led by a team member.
