Botswana stands out as one of the finest Safari destinations in Africa and the magnificent Okavango Delta is at the heart of Botswana’s wildlife and Safari area. Here, Africa's third-largest river fans out across the desert sands in a huge maze of sparkling channels and lazy lagoons, producing a lush green oasis half the size of Switzerland.
The Okavango Delta forms one of the world’s richest ecosystems and is literally teeming with all kinds of flora and fauna. It is a paradise for wildlife watchers and Safaris here provide a unique and unforgettable experience. Many of the waters are seasonal but some are permanent rivers. Mokoros (traditional poled canoes) glide silently past papyrus groves and iridescent flocks of birds.
The Chobe River to the north of the Okavango Delta is within easy driving distance of Victoria Falls and attracts some of Africa's largest elephant herds. South of the Okavango Delta the incredible Nxai and Makgadikgadi pans shimmer in the African sun, eventually giving way to the stunning sand dunes of the Central Kalahari and its Bushmen communities. In this pristine and spectacular environment tourism is unobtrusive. Botswana's Safari lodges are small and eco-friendly, with visitor numbers strictly limited.
