Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Gorilla Baby Boom
Posted on 10th June 2022
“Conserving for generations” – that is the motto of Uganda’s Wildlife Authority … and it certainly rings true in the light of the news of a gorilla baby boom that has been observed and reported on for this past month of May in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
On 9th May 2022, an adult female “Kebirungi” of the Nshongi gorilla family in Bwindi’s Rushaga sector, gave birth to a bouncing and healthy baby, increasing the total number of individuals in this particular family, from 12 to 13 members.
Just 7 days later, on 16th May 2022, the Christmas family of Bwindi’s Nkuringo sector welcomed their 8th and latest edition – another healthy baby gorilla. Gorilla mother “Kiiza” and her baby are reportedly both well.
Kudos to the excellent work done by the teams of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, communities, and partners towards the great conservation efforts in Uganda that are clearly bearing fruit and birthing gorilla babies.
Congratulations from all of us at Gondwana Tours & Safaris!
We will leave you with a bit of useful travel information should this happy news have awakened your desire to experience this iconic species up close and personal: dry seasons like June to September and December to February are the best time for travellers to trek mountain gorillas in Bwindi due to the favourable conditions in the park. Trekking through the thick vegetation and hiking the rugged terrain of the park is made much more difficult in the rainy season due to the then more muddy and slippery conditions. … for more information please contact us directly.
