Hwange Horse Safaris
Hwange Horse Safaris: Our View
Ride and Walk Zimbabwe (RAW) have put together a fine offering of horse riding safari options in the Hwange National Park. For the horse riding enthusiast there can be no better way to view the big five in their natural habitat but from the back of a well trained sure-footed horse. The riding options range from a few hours riding to multi-day camp to camp trails. There are also short 1 hour trail rides available for children and less experienced riders, and these rides can be arranged from your Hwange accommodation provided you are staying at one of the lodges/camps in the north-eastern side of the Park.
On the multi day riding safaris based out of Vintage Camp, there are also other activities available to combine with the riding, including day and night game drives, walking, pan sits and much more, making it easy for a family or group of riders and non-riders to enjoy their safari stay equally. Vintage Camp has only 4 twin/double en suite tents, and as its name suggests, is a lovely little camp boasting a glamorous take on a bygone era of classical explorer type accommodation, completely eco friendly and off-grid.
Multi day rides are also available combining Vintage Camp with Bomani Lodge which lies further to the south east of Vintage. The Vintage and Imvelo Combined Horse Safari allows you to experience two dramatically different but equally breathtaking areas of one of the last true unfenced wildernesses of Africa.
This ride begins in the East of the park in true vintage explorer style before heading down to the South where you get to ride on the famous Ngamo Plains. Again, there are a range of activities to enhance you horseback adventure such as game drives both day and night, walking safaris, bird-watching, community and conservation tours and the highlight for most guests is the Elephant Express Railcar which transfers you from the East to the South of the park.
