4 Rivers

4 Rivers: Our View
4 Rivers Camp opened its doors in June 2023, an exciting new camp in the superb Kwara concession in the Okavango Delta. Our clients have been enjoying the safari camps in this private concession for many years and their feedback has always been outstanding. The Kwara Concession consists of a lot of permanent deeper water channels and open, dry floodplains, which attract a diverse range of wildlife including a high population of predators like Lion and Leopard. The private Kwara Concession is without doubt one of the finest game viewing areas in Southern Africa and one of the best places to spot the highly endangered African Wild Dog, as well as one of the few places in the Okavango Delta where Cheetah is regularly spotted. This private concession offers the ultimate wilderness safari experience in Africa, is closed to the public (self-drivers, mobile companies and over-lander groups) and therefore off-road and night driving are permitted. The guides and trackers, as well as the camp management at 4 Rivers Camp are one for the best we had on any of our safaris in Africa. However, the game viewing at 4 Rivers seems to be very seasonal and not yet as established as in the sister camps (Splash and Kwara Camp). The better and more productive sightings in this part of the concession were recorded during the drier winter month from April to October.
The camp has 9 tented, very spacious rooms with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, a lounge area, and wooden deck. The general open plan lounge and dining area overlooks a deep lagoon with resident hippos, who can be heard grunting during the day and at night. Large sofas and armchairs are set out on the lounge deck to enjoy a chilled afternoon or the African sunset with a drink in your hand. And a small library with wildlife books is open to all guests.

4 Rivers: The Details
The Kwara concession is superb for wildlife, with huge areas of dry land, as well as wetlands, forest, and floodplains. These varied habitats mean that the Kwara area attracts an unusually diverse range of animals and predators compared to other areas. As well as the must see animals like Lion, Leopard, Elephant and Buffalo that can be seen at other camps, 4 Rivers may also offer great opportunities of sightings of the highly endangered African Wild Dog, as well as Cheetah. There is no doubt that the game viewing is the star attraction at 4 Rivers Camp during the drier months during the main flood season.
In addition to game drives, 4 Rivers Camp is able to offer mokoro trips and walking safaris all year round. Although the management reserves the right to hold them on short notice, if the conditions change and water levels are too low to do this.
Kwando Safaris, which operates the Kwara concession, are renowned for the high quality of their guiding at all their camps, and 4 Rivers Camp is no different in that regard. The focus at Kwando Safari Camps is on the safari experience. A good guide, as well as the additional tracker in front, which are offered at all Kwando Camps play an essential part of a good quality safari experience. All of the guides and trackers really are exceptionally talented at tracking the wildlife and usually know the bush like the back of their hand. Most guides in Botswana are good but we have found that the guides at the Kwando camps seem to work that much harder to locate the wildlife and share valid information with guests. Being on a private concession allows guests to go off road during their game drives and on night drives to watch nocturnal animals.
