Nokanyana: Our View

Nokanyana offers some of the best game viewing in Africa, with exceptional game drive opportunities in the surrounding area. We were amazed at the quality of game viewing here. A pride of lion licking their wounds after a night of skirmishing with another pride, hippo challenging each other for dominance, and herds of elephant moving through the bush on their way to water. All this on one morning drive!

You will find Nokanyana’s ten luxury tents nestled in the lush bush on the banks of the Khwai River, bordering the Khwai Wildlife Concession on the northern border of the world-famous Moremi Game Reserve. You can sometimes see elephant, antelope, giraffe, and other wildlife from your room! The seven luxury rooms and three luxury family suites all have dazzling panoramic views of the surrounding African bush.

The tents are spacious, light, and airy, with king-size beds and large private decks. All have en-suite bathrooms with double sinks and two large rain showers: one inside and one outside. The bathrooms feature contemporary layouts with views of the bush (the toilet and shower are in separate private sections).

The three family suites are positioned away from the main area and the rest of the rooms, allowing Nokanyana to welcome children from the age of six. The family suites are set up for a family of four (a fifth bed can easily be added if required). There can be no better location than Nokanyana to introduce your children to the magic of the African bush.

All ten luxury rooms are generously spaced out, offering privacy and peace.

Extending from the Okavango River, the Khwai River forms part of the northern border of the Moremi Game Reserve. Nokanyana overlooks the spot where the Khwai and Mababe Rivers join, creating a beautiful environment in which to relax and watch African wildlife pass by.

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and savour the raw African bush, with sundowner drinks near water, just as dusk settles over the horizon.

Nokanyana: The Details

Nokanyana, meaning “Little River”, lies on the confluence of the Khwai and Mababe rivers, in the far east of the Okavango Delta. This is an intimate and relaxed camp offering an affordable base to explore the surrounding area, with game drives into the Khwai and the Mababe depression as well as optional extras such as full day trips into the Moremi and/or Savuti. Activities focus on morning and afternoon game drives and walking is permitted in the area. Mokoro excursions are also available as add-ons.

The flexibility of the activity schedule at Nokanyana is a big draw-card for families who wish to experience a more relaxed itinerary with their children.

Being a major source of water for key species such as elephant, waterbuck and red lechwe, the Khwai River area teems with wildlife. Predators follow - including lion, leopard, and hyena. Wild Dog sightings are frequent too!

The large main public area consists of a spacious lounge, bar, dining room, and boma overlooking the river. A sparkling swimming pool offers welcome respite from the midday heat and adds to the attraction of Nokanyana.
