The Elephant Camp: Our View

The Elephant Camp is a very good choice if you plan to combine a visit to the world-famous Victoria Falls with a luxury and individual lodge. The service is superb and absolutely deserves its 5-star status. You should note that the Elephant Camp is not a classical safari lodge and is not offering any game drives starting from the lodge. However, it is possible to book game drives (at additional cost), in the nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya or Victoria Falls National Park.

The Elephant Camp is located 10 kilometres away from the town centre and the Victoria Falls – so if you are looking for a central hotel that you can walk to the Falls from, there might be more suitable options. However, the camp offers a complimentary daily shuttle service into the centre of Victoria Falls.

Meeting the rehabilitated elephants of the lodge is one of the highlights at The Elephant Camp. The revenues of the activities with the animals are being donated to a wildlife trust that works on the conversation of both species.

Families with children are most welcome at the camp, with two family units being offered.

The Elephant Camp: The Details

The Elephant Camp is located approximately 15 minutes from the Victoria Falls Airport on a private concession in Zimbabwe. The camp consists of 12 luxury tented rooms which are well spaced apart and therefore offer much privacy. If you do have walking issues we recommend one of the tents near the main lodge, since the area is relatively extensive.

All tented rooms are equipped with private viewing deck, a plunge pool, air conditioning and fans. The food at The Elephant Camp is excellent and can be served on your private deck on request.

The activities include the daily “meeting with the elephants”, which is included in the room price. Elephant interactions are at extra cost. Revenue for additional activities goes to the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust. This charity specifically cares for or relocates animals that have become a problem. For example, if a cheetah kills a farm animal, the organization financially compensates the farmer and moves it to a more appropriate location instead of killing it.

Other activities around the Victoria Falls such as a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, rafting on the Zambezi, helicopter flights over the Falls or day trips into the Chobe National Park can be booked separately. We advise against the interactions or walks with young lions due to animal protection reasons.
