Splash Camp: Our View

Splash Camp has two things going for it that you can’t beat. It has off the wall, absolutely superb wildlife viewing - you will really struggle to find better in the Okavango Delta or indeed in Africa - and they have permanent water!

This combination makes Splash Camp a winner for those who don’t have too much time to spend in the Okavango Delta.

So you can almost guarantee that at Splash Camp you will be able to enjoy the sublime waterways of the Okavango Delta by boat while also experiencing the best bush wildlife viewing that Africa has to offer.

Our time at Splash Camp was really made special by joining one of their resident Wild Dog packs on their morning hunt. Perhaps one of our best wildlife experiences ever in Southern Africa! But that is not to detract from the astonishing wildlife that is to be found all around the camp.

The luxury Splash Camp rooms overlook a seasonal water pan that attracts abundant wildlife. Although the rooms at Splash Camp are not tented - which is unusual for the Delta, the whole front section of each room is comprised of floor to ceiling mesh windows with a sliding mesh door. This means that you can hear all the sounds of the African Bush as you lie safely in bed at night! And when you wake up in the morning you can enjoy wonderful views of the African bush from your bed or balcony!

The vast private concession around Splash Camp offers a huge diversity of dry and wetland, forests and floodplains. These varied habitats mean that an unusually diverse range of wildlife, particularly predators, are attracted. Splash Camp enjoys regular sightings of the highly endangered African Wild Dog and Cheetah, as well as the “must see” animals like Lion, Leopard, Elephant and Buffalo.

During the game drives you will have a driver/guide as well as a tracker on the vehicle, which is unusual but very welcome! Having a dedicated tracker on your vehicle really maximises your chances of good sightings in the bush.

Splash Camp: The Details

Price wise Splash Camp is excellent value for the high quality wildlife viewing, guiding, and accommodation that it offers as a luxury choice.

If we have any reservation to express about Splash Camp, it is that to an extent we feel that the focus at Splash Camp is very much on the Safari experience, and that the service and management at Splash can be a little inconsistent.

We have been to Splash many times for review purposes. None of us will ever pass up on the opportunity to visit again, because Splash Camp just has everything to offer that a camp can offer in the Okavango Delta. Amazing wildlife sightings and opportunities every single day in a luxury setting - that’s Splash Camp!
