Somalisa Expeditions Camp
Somalisa Expeditions Camp: Our View
This is one of 3 camps operated by African Bush Camps (Somalisa Expeditions, Somalisa Acacia & Somalisa Camp) in this remote private concession in Hwange National Park. Somalisa Expeditions Camp a simpler bush camp style compared to Somalisa Camp and is more reasonably priced. The rooms at Somalisa Expeditions Camp may be less luxurious than Somalisa Camp but they are still of a very good standard compared to other camps in Hwange National Park and offer great value for money.
Only these 3 camps are able to do game drives in their private concession in Hwange. It is in the eastern section of Hwange, well away from the busier area around Hwange Main Camp. So even when they go into the main national park on the game drives, it is rarely going to be crowded as there are very few other camps in this area. So it is perfect for clients looking for an exclusive safari with very few other vehicles at sightings.
Somalisa Expeditions Camp offers a true wilderness bush experience in a fantastic game viewing area and at a relatively affordable price. This makes it great value and a real favourite of ours.

Somalisa Expeditions Camp: The Details
When African Bush Camps refurbished Somalisa Camp they also built this new camp and used the original tents from Somalisa Camp. The aim was to offer clients on a slightly lower budget a truly authentic bush safari experience in this wonderful private concession inside the Hwange National Park -and they have definitely succeeded in our opinion! The tented rooms at Somalisa Expeditions Camp are still spacious and beautifully furnished. They have dark wood floors, a small desk and a stand up fan. Tea/coffee is also provided in the rooms with a flask of hot water. At the rear of the rooms there is an en-suite bathroom with toilet and shower with hot and cold running water. They all have a deck area that guests can relax on with views on to the surrounding bush and plains of Hwange.
The main tented lounge and bar area is also a lovely place to relax. Dark wood floors and furniture and African ornaments give a real African feel to it and there are some very comfortable sofas to relax on. There is also an indoor fire place which will be very welcome on cold winter nights. Outside, in front of the lounge area there is also a boma fire place to sit round. Somalisa Expeditions Camp does not have a swimming pool or a proper waterhole. But there is a small water trough that will certainly attract animals to come and drink in front of camp.
Offering a fantastic safari experience has always been the main priority of African Bush Camps who own this camp and Somalisa Expeditions Camp is no exception. The guides here are excellent and they offer both game drives and walking safaris. The game viewing in this area is also very good and very exclusive. Somalisa Expeditions Camp is located in a remote area of the park. No other companies are permitted to operate in Somalisa’s own private concession. And even when they go into the main national park you are unlikely to see many other vehicles. There are not any other camps in this area and very few self drivers come to this area. In the June to October period, as the dry season progresses and seasonal waterholes dry up, huge numbers of animals are attracted into this area because of the waterholes that have water pumped into them all year round.
