Gunn's Camp
Please note that Gunn's Camp is temporarily closed for a planned refurbishment all throughout 2022 until early late 2023.
Gunn's Camp: Our View
Gunn's Camp has historically always been what we call a pure ‘water’ or ‘wet’ camp. This means that much of the area around the camp is water with pockets of dry land. The ‘water’ camps are some of the most scenic of all the Okavango Delta camps and tend to be much more relaxed. It is important to remember though that the big game viewing is more limited compared to camps with lots of dry land that offer game drives. So we would not normally recommend it if it is the only camp clients are going to.
However, in 2019 there was a severe drought in Botswana and water levels in this western area of the Okavango Delta dropped to such a degree that water activities were not possible and for the first time ever Gunn's offered game drives. We also noted that the lack of water enabled much more big game to move into the area and the game viewing was much better than it usually is! This makes it harder to predict exactly what sort of experience will be on offer at Gunn's Camp in the future. Our advice to clients is that if you especially want a camp that offers water activities including mokoro trips then check with us and we will try to see what water levels are probably going to be like when you want to stay. We would advise clients to still combine Gunn's Camp with another camp that can always guarantee to offer game drives and excellent big game viewing.
Gunn's Camp is one of our real favourites because it is so well priced compared to other similar camps and it has a great location overlooking the wet or dry plains (seasonal) of the Okavango Delta. It is one of two camps in this area owned by the same operator (the other camp being Moremi Crossing Camp which is much larger but cheaper).
The fact that it is very intimate with only 6 rooms, and that the rooms and communal areas are of exceptionally high spec for a camp in this price bracket really adds to its appeal.
Overall, Gunn's is a gorgeous little camp which works especially well as part of a longer safari itinerary which includes camps that can guarantee to offer game drives and good big game viewing. It offers a special experience and its reasonable price helps to keep the cost down.

Gunn's Camp: The Details
Gunn's Camp is beautifully located, surrounded by the seasonal floodplains of the Okavango Delta. From the moment you arrive there is a real feeling of tranquillity and relaxation!
The 6 tented rooms are accessed from the main camp along a raised walk way which is very prettily lit at night. They are well spaced apart to give lots of privacy. Each one is very smartly furnished with a separate lounge area, en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower and bathtub and a large private deck.
The two story communal lounge/dining area has beautiful views over the surrounding floodplains and river. There is also a swimming pool with loungers covered by thatched roofs in the garden area.
Activities offered will depend on the water level at the time of your visit. If water levels return to their pre 2019 levels then Gunn's Camp will probably only offer water activities and walking safaris. However if water levels are too low then it may not be possible to do water activities in which case the owners have advised that they will always offer game drives instead. Many camps in Botswana have stopped offering walking safaris but this activity is always offered at Gunn's Camp regardless of water levels. Walking Safaris offer a fantastic opportunity for clients to view animals from a very different perspective. Whatever activities are offered though clients can be sure of a high quality and diverse safari experience which allows an in depth experience of the Okavango Delta's amazing eco system.
