Deception Valley Lodge: Our View

Deception Valley Lodge is a luxury lodge nestled within the huge (43 000Ha of pristine wilderness) Kalahari Private Reserve, adjacent to the North Eastern boarder of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Lodge is situated in the Hainaveld area and offers a unique bush experience in one of Africa's most remote semi-deserts.

Deception Valley Lodge is one of the few places where you can meet traditional San people (Bushmen) and learn about their skills and habits. The DeceptionValley is a dry river-bed that was once an extension of the Okavango River. Part of the Valley is in the Central Kalahari and part of it runs through the southern end of the concession of Deception Valley Lodge - and so the name of the lodge originated.

Accommodation is in six private and very spacious suites, each with twin beds, lounge, ensuite bathroom with Victorian bath and a private outdoor shower. One of the six suites is a family suite which has its own private pool. Private decks provide a dramatic view over the Kalahari. The lodge has a main area with dining room, lounge and bar, as well as a swimming pool, library, curio shop and a gym.

Activities at Deception Valley Lodge include day and night game drives in custom built vehicles with a good chance of spotting the rare Black Maned Kalahari lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, kudu and with some luck the shy and elusive brown hyena. The night game drives will reveal the fascinating world of the nocturnal animals in this area. Deception Valley Lodge is a paradise for bird lovers. Guests may also enjoy nature walks and stargazing.

Deception Valley Lodge: The Details

One of the highlights of Deception Valley Lodge is the rare opportunity to meet and explore this remarkable environment with San guides of the Naru speaking San tribe. The San people were the first people of Africa, and they are direct descendants of the first people to ever live on earth.

Designated waterholes, hidden viewing hides, vegetated dunes, natural pans and an amazing valley all offer incredible game viewing opportunities at Deception Valley Lodge. The Lodge’s very own waterhole is another major attraction and hours can be spent sitting on the deck enjoying all the activity as the wildlife comes down to drink.

This lodge is booked on an all inclusive basis, with accommodation, meals and all drinks, activities and laundry service. Children from the age of 2 years are welcome, however, game drives are only allowed for children from the age of 6 years.
