Savute Elephant Lodge: Our View

Savute Elephant Lodge is one of the three camps the Belmond group (previously known asOrient-Express Hotels) offers in Botswana.

As you enter Savute Elephant Lodge, you will feel you are immersed in a different world! This lodge is gorgeous and has been built in perfect harmony with its desert-like surroundings. The modern main area is built on the bank of the Savute Channel and offers beautiful views overthe river below. Spotlights light up the river at night and guests can watch animals coming down to the river to drink. Unlike many camps in Botswana, Savute Elephant Lodge is fenced with electrical wires raised high off the ground,  designed to prevent elephant and buffalo entering the lodge. Other animals can still wander around the lodge freely.

The elegant spacious central building is composed of a bar, a lounge, a dining area, and a swimming pool with pool beds, all overlooking the Savutechannel.

You will have plenty of time to relax between game viewing activities. The lodge has a huge (by safari standards!) swimming pool which is on a deck overlooking the river. There is also  a Spa and a curio shop. Massages can also be enjoyed onyour private deck. And if you want to stay in touch with the outside world, there is Wi-Fi and a TV lounge. Savute Elephant Lodge also boasts a library.

The twelve, large, opulent tented rooms all overlook the Savute channel. Each room has a spacious deck with spectacular views! Glass sliding doors reveal a spacious room with polished wooden floor, a desk, and a big 4-poster style bed enclosed by a mosquito net. There is an air-conditiong unit above the bed, and also a mini bar. Each room is designed with light colors which makesthem very crisp and light. All rooms feature an ensuite bathroom with double sinks, indoor and outdoor showers, and a wardrobe with luxury gown and slippers.

As you would expect from a lodge of this standard, the food and service at Savute Elephant Lodge isexcellent. Breakfastis served buffet-style while the delicious lunches and dinners are plated meals, with various options to choose from.  Meals are served at private separated tables, except for the ‘Boma’ evenings where a communal table is used. The products used are all fresh. The bar is fully stocked, from soft drinks, to vintage South African wines,to international alcoholic spirits. Premium brands and imported champagnes are offered at additional cost.

Savute Elephant Lodge: The Details

From the excellent guiding, fine dining, and superb service,to the luxury tented rooms and equipment, Savute Elephant Lodge will not disappoint you. This lodge provides a luxury and high-quality safari experience on all levels.

Savute Elephant Lodge is located in the Chobe National Park, and therefore does not offer the same exclusivity that other lodges of this standard may offer in private concessions. As well as a few other lodges, this area is also open to self-drivers, and mobile camping groups; meaning that there will probablybe many other vehicles sharing the roads and the animal sightings. In addition, guides are required to remain on the demarcated  roads and are not allowed to leave the road even  to follow animals into the bush. They also have to be back at the lodge before sunset. But the Savute remains an excellent region for wildlife, especially during the winter months (June to October) where the animals tend to concentrate around the Savute channel and the Savute waterholes. It is also possible to see some Bushman paintings and baobab trees in this region.
