Mukambi Safari Lodge
Mukambi Safari Lodge: Our View
Mukambi Safari Lodge is located in the central Kafue area. It is just outside the Park with a lovely location right by the Kafue River, overlooking the National Park on the other side. It is not far from the main road from Lusaka but it isstill in a very beautiful bush setting. This means that Mukambi Lodge is very accessible by road transfer from Lusaka and is a great option at the start or end of a Kafue safari when combined with more remote bush camps inside the park.
With 13 rooms, it is one of the larger lodges in Kafue but it is still relatively small compared to lodges in other safari areas. It definitely feels more like a permanent lodge compared to the more rustic bush camps, but this means it has good facilities and offers high levels of comfort.
Mukambi Safari Lodge is one of the more affordable lodges in Kafue and offers fantastic value. It offers access to good game viewing in the wild Kafue Park and good levels of comfort too. Clients looking for a more budget safari may be tempted to just stay here! However, we would personally recommend combining Mukambiwith one of the bush camps further into the park. The same company also operates Fig Tree Bush Camp inside the park and the very remote Busanga Plains Camp. Combining Mukambi with one of these would be a great option and they offer discounted package rates when doing this.

Mukambi Safari Lodge: The Details
Mukambi has 8 thatched stone chalets, 4 luxury tents and a family villa. The chalets are older and quite simple. They are worth considering for clients on more of a budget, but we personally prefer the luxury tents if they are available,as they are not much more expensive. These are larger and more luxuriously furnished and offer a more authentic safari experience. They have a stunning location right on the banks of the Kafue River surrounded by riverine bush. Sliding glass doors lead on to a lovely deck area with an outside bath as well as the indoor shower in the ensuite bathroom!
The family villa is a fantastic and spacious option for families. Located right by the river, it has 2 ensuite bedrooms, a large lounge area and a large deck overlooking the river.
The communal areas are a multi-level thatched structure with a dining area, a relaxed seating area overlooking the river and a cosy lounge and bar area with an open fireplace. There is also an outdoor boma area and a swimming pool.
Wildlife can be seen all around the lodge, which has easy access to some excellent game viewing in Kafue Park and offers a diverse range of activities. Mukambi’svehicles are permanently parked on the national park side and are accessed by a short boat trip across the river. As well as herds of elephant and buffalo, there are often good sightings of lion, cheetah, leopard, and wild dogs. In addition to day and night game drives, guests can enjoy walking safaris, sunset cruises on the Kafue River, fishing, and cultural visits to the local school that the lodge supports.
