Kanana: Our View

Kanana Camp is situated on the Xudum River in the south-west region of Botswana's Okavango Delta.

This part of the Delta has many small islands with figs, palms, knob thorn and ebony trees. Home to many plants, birds and animals, a great diversity of species can be admired in this unique habitat.

The Okavango Delta annual floods change some areas of the Kanana concession into a water paradise. Guests can then enjoy the best of both worlds: exploring wildlife through waterways while also being able to traverse the bush by vehicle.

Furthermore, Kanana offers a Sleep Out Deck where guests may spend the night under the  African night sky.

Guests are comfortably accommodated in the camp's seven spacious double and twin bedded luxury tents. One family tent is also available for parents wishing to share their accommodation with their children. Each of the safari tents offers an en-suite bathroom which is complete with hot and cold running water, shower, as well as a flush toilet. The Kanana tents afford privacy while being located within a convenient distance from the main camp area.

The swimming pool offers a relaxing place for guests to cool off during their stay. The main area boasts a dining room, an al fresco deck, a bar, a sitting area, and a campfire overlooking the Xudum River.

Located in a private concession, visitors have a choice of various activities. Besides the thrilling safari drives (only 4 pax per vehicle, night driving and off road driving allowed), the guided walking safaris and the Mokoro trips, travellers can also enjoy seasonal fishing.

Depending on the water levels, motor boating is also available, which provides private access to one of the largest heronries in the Okavango Delta of Botswana. This area is particularly perfect for enthusiastic bird watchers. Regular sightings of Pel's Fishing Owl occur.

The camp is accessed by light aircraft to the camp private airstrip.

Kanana: The Details

Kanana Camp is located in the remote inner reaches of the Okavango Delta. Seven luxury-style tents are built on stilts to ensure all visitors get a good view of the floodplains. Ebony, knob thorn acacia, and sausage trees provide shade on warm days.

The dining and sitting areas are raised on decking encircling a massive ancient fig tree. A well stocked bar ensures a cocktail is always close at hand.

While game viewing in 4×4 vehicles is very popular, walking or gliding silently through the delta by Mokoro (traditional canoe) is popular too.

Besides the elephant, a wide variety of other game frequent the Delta in this area, including impala, lechwe, hippo, crocodile, and lion. Migratory water birds like the yellow bill stork and slate egrets come to hatch their young around the area depending on the season. Indeed this area is particular renowned for its birding potential.

Sitatunga antelope, leopard, and wild dog also frequent the area.
