Buhoma Lodge: Our View

Buhoma Lodge is an intimate, eclectic, lodge in Bwindi that commands spectacular views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to the critically endangered Mountain Gorillas. So close is Buhoma Lodge to the forest, that occasionally Mountain Gorillas have been seen in the Buhoma Lodge gardens!

The ten comfortable chalets at Buhoma Lodge have been thoughtfully constructed from local materials. Each suite has a private verandah and enormous windows, allowing guests spectacular views of the majestic forest canopy of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Buhoma Lodge has been designed using sustainable local materials where possible, with the emphasis being on natural products, giving support to the local communities. Solar power is used inside each chalet for lighting, with a central area available for recharging cameras and similar devices. Inside the chalets you will find comfortable beds, as well as well-appointed en suite bathrooms with flushing toilets. Each chalet features a hot shower. Some also have a bath.

The Buhoma Lodge bar has a selection of local and imported beverages, and their staff are attentive and friendly. As part of the Buhoma Lodge commitment to the local community, staff are recruited locally. Meals here are freshly prepared from local produce, offering a balance of international and local cuisine. Hot beverages are available throughout the day on a self-service basis, but morning tea or coffee is brought to your chalet.

Buhoma Lodge: The Details

One of the few lodges found within Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Buhoma Lodge offers comfortable accommodation in accordance with eco-conscious principles. The views of the forest canopy from this lodge are really spectacular, while the meeting point for the Gorilla Trekking is just down the road. We walked there!

Host to an incredible variety of fauna and flora, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site where approximately half of the global population of the endangered Mountain Gorilla are to be found. While Gorilla Tracking is the main attraction here, and deservedly so, chimpanzee trekking, forest walks, cultural interactions with local communities, and bird watching are also on offer.

Buhoma Lodge’s ten chalets come in double and twin configurations and each feature mosquito proofing, en suite bathrooms, and a verandah overlooking the forest. Self-service tea and coffee is on offer throughout the day and is also provided for early morning wake-up calls. An elevated lounge with fireplace, bar, and dining facilities as well as a gift shop, internet corner with plug points, and massage room make up the main lodge facilities.
