Loisaba Tented Camp: Our View

Loisaba Tented Camp has a spectacular location on the edge of an escarpment looking out on to the vast panorama of the Laikipia wilderness and Mount Kenya in the distance. It is part of the Elewana group, in our opinion one of the best value luxury operators in East Africa, with camps throughout Kenya and Tanzania. After a devastating fire destroyed the previous camp, it was totally rebuilt to a much higher standard and re-opened in 2016. The new camp certainly delivers the sort of luxury experience that Elewana are famous for.

This sense of luxury extends to the exclusivity of the safari experience. the camp is located in the huge 56,0000 acres (227km²) Loisaba Private Conservancy. There are only 2 other camps in this conservancy, both owned by Elewan -  the tiny Loisaba Star beds and Loisaba Lodo Springs. So you will see very few other vehicles on your game drives.

With only 12 tented rooms, Loisaba Tented Camp is small enough to offer an intimate and personal experience.

Offering high levels of luxury and a true wilderness experience, Loisaba Tented Camp is a fantastic option in the Laikipia region. Like the other Laikipia reserves, the game in Loisaba may not be as dense as other safari areas like the Maasai Mara. However, it still offers very good game viewing and the level of exclusivity and diverse range of activities means a stay here will offer an incredible experience.

Loisaba Tented Camp: The Details

The 12 tented rooms are very spacious and airy with stunning views over the Loisaba Conservancy. Polished wooden floors, stylish modern furnishings, a lounge area and large verandahs give the rooms a luxurious feel. The beautiful bathrooms have flush toilets, twin wash basins and solar heated rain showers. The rooms are designed to immerse you in the surrounding wilderness with floor to ceiling doors and windows that allow the whole front of the room to be fully opened up.              

Four of the rooms can be used as 2 family units each with 2 totally separate ensuite rooms connected by a walkway.

The communal areas offer the same sense of space and spectacular views. There is a large open dining area, separate open lounge and bar area, a large wooden decking area for outside dining, relaxing and enjoying the views, and a large infinity swimming pool with some of the best views in Africa.

The diverse range of activities and exclusivity of the experience are real highlights of a stay in the Loisaba Conservancy. With so few camps here, it is totally uncrowded and you will have this vast wilderness almost entirely to yourself. Like the other Laikipia conservancies, Loisaba is a real conservation success story. It is owned by a community trust which is committed to wildlife and ecological conservation, sustainable livestock farming and benefiting local communities.

The usual game activities like game drives and walking safaris enable you to enjoy the excellent game viewing in Loisaba. In addition there are other activities which are less frequently offered at other safari camps, including horse riding, camel trekking and mountain biking.
