Pom Pom Camp: Our View

Pom Pom Camp is one of the longest established safari camps in the Okavango Delta, and one of the best loved! Safari camps come and go, but Pom Pom Camp has been a rock-solid choice in the Okavango Delta for guests from all over the world for many decades. The Pom Pom management, staff, and guides are renowned for looking after their guests with a special pride, and a passion for what they do.

Pom Pom Camp is a mid-range, eco-friendly, safari camp, situated centrally in a private concession of the Okavango Delta, near the western edge of the famous Moremi Game Reserve. Historically the Pom Pom concession has always been blessed with plenty of water. This allows for water activities such as motor boating, Mokoro, and fishing (for most of the year), as well as the more common game viewing by vehicle that most safari camps in the Okavango Delta provide. Because Pom Pom Camp is in a private concession, offroad driving and night drives are allowed too.

The game viewing at Pom Pom is usually very good indeed! While Pom Pom Camp has always been known for their big cats, particularly leopard, we have regular reports from our guests of an astonishing variety of wildlife spotted by them in the Pom Pom concession.

Pom Pom Camp offers guests practically every activity that the Okavango Delta can offer. Motor boating, Mokoro, day and night game viewing by 4x4 vehicle, offroad driving, and guided walking. They even offer fishing for 10 months of the year! And delightful, informative, nature walks around the camp area too.

Pom Pom Camp is always a popular choice of accommodation in the Okavango Delta because of how much it has to offer in terms of wildlife, safari activities, accommodation, management/staff, and guiding.

The fact that Pom Pom Camp is able to offer all that it does for a relatively reasonable price does however mean that availability can be limited for this safari camp, especially during mid (shoulder) and high season.

Pom Pom Camp: The Details

Pom Pom Camp is located in a remarkably scenic area of the Okavango Delta that enjoys a mix of dry and wetland areas. This means that Pom Pom can usually operate water-based safari activities for most, if not all, of the year – as well as game drives. Being on a private concession, Pom Pom safari vehicle drivers are able to drive off road and at night to follow up at once on wildlife sightings.

The accommodation at Pom Pom Camp consists of large Meru style tents on stilts, set in a small forest, overlooking a lagoon. Each luxury tent has a deck and drawing room before one enters the large bedroom area. Behind the bedroom is an ensuite bathroom, and behind the bathroom, outside, there is a shower area that is fully enclosed on the sides for privacy and security, but open to the sky. The luxury tents are set beneath a canopy of trees in a small forest, taking advantage of the shade provided. There is a decent sized swimming pool at Pom Pom, and powerful fans in every tent. The communal area consists of a large open boma for relaxing and dining, with a firepit beyond that for evening chats, and for drinks under the stars in front of Pom Pom Lagoon.

At certain times of the year the area that includes the Pom Pom concession can get a lot of water, limiting the productive game drive areas that are available. Nevertheless, our clients are rarely disappointed with the Pom Pom concession, and frequently report remarkable wildlife sightings.

The Pom Pom concession is considered especially good for leopard sightings. Leopard just love that area!
