Rhino Safari Camp: Our View

Rhino Safari Camp, a small owner-run camp, located on a private concession within the remote Matusadona National Park offers a highly authentic, personalized experience. Whilst deliberately rustic in nature, the camp still provides a very comfortable and unforgettable safari style of yester year. The camp consists of only 7 twin/double en suite thatched chalets, raised on Tonga-Style stilted platforms discreetly spaced along the shoreline, all with spectacular views over Lake Kariba’s panoramic water & sky-scapes. . The camp is unfenced and wildlife moves freely between the chalets along well used game trails. Be prepared for a truly wild experience. Your completely safe, elevated platform chalet, makes the perfect “hide” from which to enjoy close up, eye-level encounters with passing elephants, or marvel at the diverse birdlife in the surrounding bush.

Rhino Safari Camp is well known for its authentic safari experience, and if you are looking for a down to Earth friendly environment off the beaten track this camp is a winner. Activities on offer include game drives, walking, birding, boat cruises and fishing. The peaceful setting is ideal as well for those just wanting to have some real time-out away from the strains of modern life.

The camp is accessed by boat either from Kariba (roughly one and a half hours) or from the nearby Tashinga or Rhokari (Kiplings) airstrips (roughly forty minutes). Boat transfers are by speed boat.

Rhino Safari Camp: The Details

Whether travelling alone, with friends or family, this well priced little gem is worth considering, and is one of our favorite camps in the Matusadona area.  The friendliness of the team, the beauty of the surroundings, and the overall authenticity of the camp are what make Rhino Safari Camp very special in our view.  The owner-managers are truly passionate about their home, and their wealth of knowledge of the flora, fauna and history of the area offers a wonderful learning opportunity for visitors to the area.  We would recommend at least 3 or 4 nights here, if not more!
