Chief's Camp: Our View 

Chief's Camp is the flagship camp of Sanctuary Retreats in Botswana, offering some of the most luxurious accommodation in the Okavango Delta combined with very high levels of service and dining and excellent guiding.

The Camp is located on Chiefs Island to the south of the famous Mombo Camp. The game viewing is generally not quite as intense as around Mombo Camp but it is still exceptional. And this is one of the few places in Botswana where white rhino may be seen in the wild, which is a real highlight

Chief's Camp is not a low-budget option but for clients willing to spend top dollar for very good service and accommodation, as well as excellent all round game viewing this is a good choice. And it compares favourably to other top end camps in the same price bracket. But make sure you don't end up having the room next to the restaurant (old spa), which tends to be quite noisy during meal times.

Chief's Camp: The Details 

Chief’s Camp is situated in the Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve, known as the predator capital of Africa and is considered to have some of the finest game viewing in southern Africa.

The Camp comprises 12 very spacious luxury tented bush pavilions, well spaced apart for lots of privacy. Each room offers en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, romantic four poster beds and private game viewing decks with your own private swimming pool.

The main lodge of Chiefs Camp houses the dining area, bar, curio shop, library and reception area. This structure was built into the existing landscape, under a shady canopy of mature Jackalberry, Sausage and Rain trees.

The main deck area is split-level and offers expansive views over the floodplain to the north. On the lower level of the deck you will  find the communal swimming pool. A range of spa treatments is offered in a poolside treatment sala (peak season only).

This specific area in the Okavango Delta is renowned for its large concentrations of plains-game, elephant and buffalo and offers good sightings of the predators. Professionally guided game-drives are conducted in open 4 X 4 vehicles in the early morning and late afternoon. Mokoro excursions are offered in high season only, subject to water levels.
