Amber River Camp: Our view

Amber River Camp is located in the NG32 private concession that is rich in wildlife and natural beauty in the Southern Okavango Delta. It is in the heart of the wilderness, in a remote and tranquil part of Okavango Delta, away from the more crowded areas. Located on an island surrounded by vast, unspoiled landscapes of rivers, floodplains and woodlands, Amber River Camp provides excellent opportunities for game viewing and birdwatching.

Amber River Camp is the ideal destination for those seeking an exclusive and immersive African safari experience, where comfort and nature come together. The camp is designed with eco-friendly practices in mind, blending into its environment. With only 6 elegant tented suites, this is a small and personal camp where guests quickly feel at ease. The camp’s position on a permanent lagoon is a real highlight - you have constant movement in front of you, whether it’s hippos in the water, elephants coming to drink, or birdlife moving through the reeds.

The spacious tents are designed with comfort and style in mind, offering en-suite bathrooms with “her and his” showers and each suite also has an outside open-air shower and bath! The large deck in front of the room offers panoramic views of the African bush.

Because of its position, you can enjoy both land and water experiences when conditions allow - classic game drives as well as the slower, peaceful mokoro outings that the Delta is known for.

Amber River Camp: The Details

Amber River Camp is set in a peaceful location of the Okavango Delta, where permanent water meets open floodplains. The camp has a central bar and dining area, a lovely pool; the tents are located on each side on the main area, spaced out through the dense vegetation for privacy. The tents are spacious and elegant, with king size beds (or twin), inside and outside showers, and big mesh doors and windows that keep the room bright and airy. For families, one or two extra beds can easily be added into the rooms.

Days start early with a coffee before heading out on a game drive or, when water levels allow, a mokoro trip through the channels. Amber River Camp is rich in wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, and a variety of antelope. Predators like lions, leopards, hyenas and African wild dogs are also present in the area. It’s also a fantastic destination for birdwatching, with over 400 bird species recorded in the region.

Back at camp, meals are relaxed and informal, often shared with your guide or other guests. But guests can also eat separately if they prefer. In the evenings, the fire in the boma becomes the gathering point for chatting about sightings and planning the next day. The hospitality is warm and the atmosphere relaxed - the team makes you feel at home without being intrusive.

All in all, Amber River Camp offers a down-to-earth, comfortable Okavango Delta experience in a beautiful setting, ideal for travellers who prefer small camps, personal attention and an intimate and authentic safari experience.
