Chobe River Lodge
Chobe River Lodge: Our View
Chobe River Lodge is located in Kasane town in northern Botswana, on the banks of the Chobe River. Bordering the Chobe National Park this boutique-style and family run lodge is perfectly positioned and only about a two-hour drive away from Victoria Falls.
Chobe River Lodge has ten bedrooms each with its own bathroom and private verandah overlooking the Chobe River. The combination of unlimited water and constant sunshine allows hibiscus, frangipani, bougainvillea, banana and paw paw to grow in profusion. Guests love the garden and the prolific birds attracted to the flowers and fruits. The odd marauding elephant in the garden isn't unusual either! The lounge and dining room are furnished in teak and wicker with a swimming pool one dive away. The upstairs bar overlooks the Chobe River and is also known as the map room due to the large number of maps hanging on the walls.
Activities offered here revolve around game viewing by vehicle and boat into the Chobe National Park. The park can get quite busy due to high numbers of visitors from neighbouring countries and we therefore prefer the boat safaris. The Chobe River being home to the famed tiger fish is also a great fishing area for the experienced as well as the novice. Chobe River Lodge will supply all the tackle needed to catch these fish, but they respectfully request guests to practice catch and release.
If you seek an insight into tribal life we suggest a mokoro (a traditional dugout canoe) trip to villages in Namibia, across the river. Guides will take you from Botswana to Namibia by mokoro and then on foot through these villages.
Chobe River Lodge can be booked on an all-inclusive basis with accommodation and all meals or on a room only basis. Children of all ages are welcome here.

Chobe River Lodge: The Details
Chobe River Lodge boasts a highly motivated owner/management team that made us feel relaxed and welcome from the moment we arrived. Their lodge is not a luxury lodge but they more than make up for it with their friendly approach. They have also recently invested in a top management/chef team. If we were to make a choice between the huge safari lodges in Kasane and Chobe River Lodge, the latter would be our preference for most guests.
