Setari Camp:  Our View

Setari Camp is a fairly new property, opened in October 2018 and is situated on a palm island deep in the Okavango Delta. It is a pure water camp, offering motorboat ride, mokoro trails, fishing and walking trails on the myriad islands that are the distinctive feature of this part of the permanent water region of the Okavango Delta.

Setari´s location is simply stunning. Nestled under a canopy of towering riverine forest, Setari Camp is built high up on wooden decks and walkways extending for over a kilometer through the island, looking out over the channels and flood plains surrounding the camp.

An exhilarating forty five minute boat ride brings you from the Jao airstrip to Setari Camp, winding through the papyrus lined channels, passing hippos, crocodiles and elephant, lechwe and the rare sitatunga antelope.  The birding in the chain of lagoons is excellent offering a plethora of water birds, including Pels fishing owls, African Skimmers, cormorants, herons, egrets, storks, sacred ibis, dabchicks, squacco herons, saddle-billed storks, knob-billed ducks, white-faced whistling duck, teal, wattled cranes, and so much more!  Even if you are not a fanatic, the variety of feathered friends in this water wonderland never fails to impress.

Setari Camp has numerous motorboats including 2 double deckers which are wonderful for game viewing from above the papyrus onto the flood plains. Due to the far ranging water channels, Setari is not as much a wildlife safari destination, and you will not see lions, cheetah or wild dog in this part of the Delta. However if you are lucky you may get to spot the elusive resident leopard which lives on the Setari Island.  The mokoro trails and walking excursions are wonderful, and a great way to get out there and appreciate the smaller wonders of the Okavango Delta. The incredibly knowledgeable Setari Camp guides are generally all from this region.

The accommodation at Setari is simply gorgeous, with stunning views and wonderfully comfortable stylish furnishings, including outdoor and indoor showers and an irresistible deep free standing bath with loads of hot water for those chilly evenings after your sunset boat cruise!

Setari Camp:  The Details

Setari Camp has been created with comfort and bliss at the forefront of the designers minds.  No little detail has been omitted, from protective eyewear to keep the evening river gnats out of your eyes on the boat ride home, to the well spread out accommodation ‘tents’ which offer peace and privacy.  We can highly recommend this camp as your safari starting point to rest after your long journey to reach Botswana, and fall gently under the hypnotic spell that is the Okavango Delta, or perhaps at the end of a busy safari itinerary with all those early morning starts!  Setari Camp is incredibly laid back, and you can go out exploring early or later, as you wish, or perhaps just chill by the pool and watch the world go by.  Either way, you will not regret including this beautiful little slice of paradise in your travel plans.
