Luc discovers Botswana

Posted on 20th June 2025

My partner and I recently had the chance to explore Botswana. This incredible country truly completely blew us away. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and this deep, grounding connection to both the land and its people.

There’s such a richness to the culture from local traditions and storytelling to the kind of hospitality that makes you feel instantly at home.

However, what really took everything to the next level was the wild.

Being surrounded by untouched nature, elephants strolling through open plains, lions lazing in the shade, wild dogs darting across the road, giraffes moving gracefully through the bush really felt surreal. Every sunrise we experienced was magical, every sunset unforgettable.

We did not miss any opportunity to experience the bush.

Our mornings started early – at 5:30 am to be exact. We would wake up to the smell of a crackling fire, wrapped in warm layers, sipping our coffee by the flames before heading out on safari. Our guides always had hot water bottles and blankets ready in the vehicle, making those cool mornings cozy and exciting all at once.

After a couple of hours out in the wild  we would pull over somewhere deep in the bush and the amazing staff would be waiting with more hot coffee and homemade snacks just in time to soak up the soft morning light and listen to the world waking up around us.

Upon returning to the camp, we had a few hours to slow down. Sometimes we spent time hanging out by the bar watching zebras wander by – like it was the most normal thing in the world. Other times headed off on bush walks with expert guides learning to track animals, read footprints, and truly understand the language of the land.

The amazing food contributed to our special experience. Every meal was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavour – whether it was a laid back lunch under the trees or a delicious dinner by firelight, we looked forward to every bite.

One of our highlights on this safari was witnessing a lion kill for the first time ever. It was wild and powerful, a little shocking, and completely unforgettable – all at once. Seeing something so raw and real right in front of us reminded us just how alive and untamed this part of the world really is.

Another unforgettable part of the journey was our time aboard the Chobe Princess houseboat. Just floating along the Chobe River, where Botswana meets Namibia, in what is often called no man’s land, felt like something out of a movie. The boat itself was stunning and equipped with all the comforts you could wish for.

The ever changing views while cruising allowed for special wildlife viewing of a different kind. Waking up on the river watching elephants come to drink from the banks as the sun rose it was magic.

The cuisine on board was impressive: five star meals from morning to night, each one better than the last. We never went hungry.

We also enjoyed daily safaris from the boat. Early morning and afternoon outings gave us even more chances to spot wildlife up close. Not a single day went by without us having an amazing wildlife encounter. It was the perfect mix of adventure, luxury, and peacefulness.

We left the bush with dust on our shoes, stars in our eyes, and a whole new appreciation for nature, for people, and for the kind of magic that happens when the two meet in a place like Botswana.

We will definitely be back for more safari magic soon!
